Contrary to a Facebook post, power plants were commissioned under former Presidents Corazon “Cory” Aquino and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

The March 10 post falsely claimed the Aquinos had no energy and electrical projects in contrast to the supposed projects of the Marcos family -- the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Senate hopeful Imee Marcos:

Marcos legacy! Si Makoy 20 power plant ang ipinatayo, sina Imee at BBM may windmills pero mag-ina[ng] Aquino ni electric fan wala (Marcos legacy! Makoy built 20 power plants, Imee and BBM have windmills, but mother and son Aquino have nothing... not even an electric fan)!

An updated list of existing power plants of the Department of Energy shows 15 currently operational power plants nationwide commissioned under Cory Aquino’s term and 91 plants, mostly solar power systems, under Noynoy Aquino’s.

The post also misleads by giving all the credit to Imee and Bongbong Marcos for the construction of the Bangui windmills in Ilocos Norte.

The Northwind Bangui Bay Project was commissioned in 2005 under the administration of Gloria Arroyo when Bongbong Marcos was the Ilocos Norte governor.

It was extended to Phase III in 2014 during Noynoy Aquino’s term when Imee Marcos was the governor.

The windmills are owned and operated by the Taguig-based private company Northwind Power Development Corp.
