Photo recycles misleading cash advance claim vs Roxas

A Facebook photo claiming the Commission on Audit required Senate candidate Mar Roxas to return P1.2 billion he allegedly received from cash advances as Interior Secretary was revived on election day. The claim has already been debunked by VERA Files as inaccurate and misleading.

The photo, posted by the Facebook page Pork ng Ina Mo, claimed COA supposedly said, “Ibalik mo ang P1.2B cash advance na nakuha mo nung DILG sec ka (Return the P1.2B cash advance you received when you were local government secretary).”

The page Pork ng Ina Mo reused the photo published late last month by Mar Roxas X-Files. The inaccurate and misleading claim against Roxas was first made during the 2016 presidential elections. It was recycled in February by Facebook page King of Lies but later taken down.

VERA Files found the 2013 financial report showed that the Department of Interior and Local Government accumulated P1.1 billion—not P1.2 billion—worth of unliquidated cash advances. The COA also did not single out Roxas for the unliquidated cash advances as the fund was appropriated to all DILG officers and employees.

The Pork ng Ina Mo post has since garnered 54 reactions and 43 shares.
