Kilusang Bagong Lipunan senatorial bet and avowed Marcos loyalist Larry Gadon has made it clear he does not believe in surveys. During ABS-CBN’s “Harapan 2019” senatorial debate on Feb. 17, 2019, Gadon claimed:

But a closer look at the results of Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia surveys on senatorial preferences for the May 2019 elections show that only two members of the Liberal Party—Mar Roxas and Bam Aquino—have made it to the ‘Magic 12’ since 2018. Critics of the Liberal Party tag its members as “dilawan” (yellow). Roxas and Aquino were not always in the top 12 across these surveys.

Aquino had a “statistical chance of winning” in only four out of the five Pulse Asia surveys conducted in March, June, September, and December 2018, and in January 2019. Roxas meanwhile, only landed in the ‘Magic 12’ in the September 2018 Pulse Asia survey, and has been on the 8th-15th spot in the December 2018 and January 2019 surveys.

They were also the only opposition candidates who landed in the ‘Magic 12’ in SWS’ two published surveys on senatorial preferences. Aquino and Roxas were tied on the 10th-12th spot in the September 2018 SWS survey sponsored by a certain Alde Joselito Pagulayan. Roxas was on the 7th spot and Aquino, on the 13th spot, in another SWS survey sponsored by then Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino, who is now running for the senate under PDP-LABAN. The survey was also conducted in September 2018.
