FB post falsely claims Cory erased Imee’s UP records
A Facebook photo rehashed an already debunked claim that Senate hopeful Imee Marcos graduated from the University of the Philippines (UP) and falsely implied her school records were erased by former president Corazon "Cory" Aquino.
The photo, posted March 10 by Facebook page Blessed Be Philippines, also included a statement purportedly made by “Cori Aquinoo” which has no basis:
#Gusto ko maghirap ang mga Pilipino para magalit sila kay Marcos (I want Filipinos to suffer and turn against Marcos)
Marcos did not graduate from UP, several media organizations had earlier reported; ABS-CBN News, GMA News and Rappler reports quote UP Executive Vice President Teodoro Herbosa confirming:
There is no record of her graduation from UP (Diliman) nor any honors or academic distinctions received with the University Registrar's office.
They also quote Herbosa saying:
[Marcos] took non-degree courses (courses without credit) in the College of Arts and Sciences University of the Philippines Diliman during academic year 1976-77. Thereafter she took courses under the Bachelor of Laws program at the UP College of Law from 1st semester 1979 to 2nd Semester 1983.
The purported “Cori Aquinoo” statement about wanting Filipinos to suffer appears lifted from a Sept. 23, 2015 post of the pro-Marcos blog “The Sick Man of Asia.”
The post claimed the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant was mothballed “dahil gusto ni Santanas Cory Aquino na maghirap ang mga Pilipino para mas lalong magalit kay Marcos (because Satan Cory Aquino wanted Filipinos to suffer and turn against Marcos).”
