A May 13 Facebook post by former Duterte campaign spokesperson Peter Tiu Laviña falsely described Senate bets Bong Go and Bato dela Rosa as the “historic first two senators from Davao”:

Nakaboto na silang dalawa BA-GO in historic first two senators from Davao (The two have voted. BA-GO in historic first two senators from Davao)!

Alejandro Almendras, although born in Cebu, studied in Davao City and was later elected governor of Davao; he was senator from 1959 to 1972.

His Senate profile in part reads:

Almendras was a third-year law student at the Mindanao Colleges in Davao City in 1951 when politics finally caught up with him. Pitted against a seasoned Liberal Party incumbent supported by the administration, Almendras won his first political battle and was elected governor of Davao… In (1959), he was elected and served as senator until 1972.

The Facebook post has garnered close to 900 reactions, 247 shares, and 59 comments.
