Duterte claim vs Tañada false

Candidate Erin Tañada has never been elected senator, contrary to President Rodrigo Duterte’s claim.

In a speech May 10 at the Hugpong ng Pagbabago-Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod miting de avance in Davao City, Duterte said:

So Tañada, gihimo unta ni siyang senador. Unya walay gibuhat ang buang kung dili magdepensa ug mga komunistang naa sa --- demanda sa korte (So Tañada, he was elected senator. But the loon didn’t do anything except defend communists in court).

Tañada was Quezon 4th District Representative and deputy House speaker for Luzon in the 15th Congress.

Tañada’s father Wigberto was elected senator in 1992; his grandfather Lorenzo in 1948 and reelected in 1953, 1959 and 1965.
