Fake Comelec order vs Moreno

A two-page resolution purportedly issued by the Commission of Elections disqualifying reelectionist Cagayan de Oro mayor Oscar Moreno is fake.

The Facebook page DDS News-CDO posted Friday evening the alleged Comelec order dated May 1 with the status, “BREAKING NEWS: Oscar Moreno DISQUALIFIED by COMELEC just now!” The spurious documents showed Comelec Commissioner Luie Tito F. Guia, Socorro B. Inting and Antonio T. Kho Jr. as signatories.

No such document is posted on the Comelec website.

Guia in an FB Messenger interview with the Mindanao Gold Star Daily disavowed the document. He said:

No case on Moreno. Cases go to either first or second division. I don’t remember having signed anything and that the style used is not the one we usually use.

Guia called the DDS News-CDO post “fake news” in a text interview with Magnum Radyo CDO.

Sunstar Cagayan de Oro, quoting Moreno’s lawyer Dale Mordeno, reported three discrepancies in the alleged Comelec order: First, the document contains a Comelec logo but has no corresponding seal. Second, it was printed on a short-, not legal-size paper. Third, it states May 1, a holiday, as the date of promulgation.

Former Barangay Tagpangi chair William Guialani in January petitioned the Comelec to disqualify Moreno, citing the graft cases against the incumbent mayor before the Ombudsman. The Comelec has not decided the petition.

Despite Guia’s statement, DDS News-CDO insists in a subsequent post that “this document stands.”
