The 2016 Labor Force Survey by the Philippine Statistics Authority estimated about 2.4 million unemployed Filipinos, contrary to Senate hopeful Ernesto Arellano’s claim.

The number of underemployed persons, those employed “who express the desire to have additional hours of work of work in their present job or to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer working hours,” was estimated at 7.5 million.
